If you drive to the same office, campus or apartment building every day, paying for parking by the hour or day adds up quickly. A monthly parking spot can turn that daily cost into one predictable bill and remove the morning hunt for a space. But monthly rates vary hugely from city to city, and the terms differ from garage to garage.
SpotHero is a parking reservation service covering 400+ cities in the US and Canada, and it lists monthly parking alongside hourly, airport and event spaces. This guide uses SpotHero’s published average monthly rates and its monthly parking FAQ, both checked on 3 November 2026, to explain what monthly parking costs and what to look for before you book. Averages are listed prices and change over time; the actual rate depends on the specific garage.

The spread is wide. At the averages above, a monthly spot in New York City costs more than six times as much as one in Las Vegas, and the most expensive cities cluster in dense downtown cores where garage space is limited. Even within one city, a garage a few blocks further from the center may be noticeably cheaper.
Is Monthly Parking Worth It?

The simplest way to decide is to compare the monthly rate with what you pay now. Multiply your typical daily parking cost by the number of days you drive in a month. If you commute five days a week, that is roughly 20 to 22 working days. If the monthly rate comes in lower, or close enough that the convenience is worth it, monthly parking makes sense.
As a purely illustrative example, a driver paying $12 a day for 21 working days spends $252 a month. Against Chicago’s $210 average monthly listing, a monthly spot would save around $42 a month, before you count the time saved by not searching for a space. Run the same sum with your own numbers and a real listing near your destination.
Monthly parking tends to suit:
- Daily commuters who drive to the same area every workday.
- City residents without a dedicated space at home.
- Students or contractors based at one site for several months.
It suits occasional drivers less well. If you only drive in two or three days a week, booking hourly or daily reservations in advance may work out cheaper.
Types of Monthly Rates
SpotHero notes that monthly spots come in different forms, and the times attached to each one matter. A spot labeled “Monday – Friday: 6 am – 7pm”, for example, only lets you park during those hours. A “24/7 Parking” spot lets you park whenever you want during the month. Check the listed times carefully so you are not paying for access you do not need, or missing access you do.
How Billing Works

According to SpotHero’s FAQ, most locations bill on the 1st and the 15th of the month. If you start on the 15th, your first bill through the parking operator could cover a month and a half, which lets you park for that period and moves you onto a 1st-of-the-month cycle. Your rate stays the same either way. SpotHero also says it does not prorate monthly parking.
There are two main payment setups:
- Recurring monthly: your card is charged automatically each month until you cancel. To cancel, you contact SpotHero’s support team, or email support@spothero.com.
- Non-recurring monthly: you pay only the first month through SpotHero. From the second month, you set up billing directly with the parking company that runs the location.
Fine Print to Check Before You Book
- Introductory rates: some spots have an intro price that may rise to the regular rate afterward. The details are in the spot description.
- Contracts: if a listing says “Contract Required”, you will need to pay for the full term.
- Access card or transponder fees: some locations charge for these, payable to the garage office after purchase.
- Motorcycles: generally not permitted unless specified, though SpotHero says a limited number of motorcycle spots exist.
- Vehicle size: some locations charge an oversize fee for taller or longer vehicles, and SpotHero is intended for personal vehicles only, not RVs, vans or buses.
How to Compare Monthly Spots

- Search near your workplace or home and compare several garages on price and distance.
- Filter by the hours you actually need.
- Check whether the garage allows in-and-out access during your parking hours.
- Look for the post-intro rate and any contract requirement.
- Read the spot details for access card fees and entry instructions.
Guarantee and Support
SpotHero backs reservations with its Parking Guarantee: a spot at the price you paid or your money back, with cases reviewed individually. Its Customer Hero team is available seven days a week, 365 days a year, and can be reached at (844) 324-7768. For monthly parking questions, SpotHero also lists 844-292-5257.

Final Thoughts
Monthly parking can turn a daily expense into one fixed bill, but only if the rate, hours and terms fit how you actually drive. Use the city averages as a starting point, then compare individual garages for price, access times, intro rates and contract terms. You can search monthly spots in your city on SpotHero.
