Washable Winter Rugs at teppich.de: Calissa, Portivo, Solina and Aurora Compared

When the heating goes on and the floors turn cold, a rug does more work than at any other time of year. It warms bare feet on tiles, softens echo in a room and catches the grit from wet boots. That last job is the catch: winter rugs get dirty fast. So the most useful question is not only how a rug looks, but whether you can wash it and whether it suits underfloor heating.

German online shop teppich.de lists these details on every product page, which makes comparison straightforward. This guide looks at five of its popular models through a winter lens. All prices, specifications and coupon codes come from teppich.de and were checked on 4 November 2026. Prices and codes change often, so confirm them at checkout.

Why Washability Matters in Winter

Salt, mud and rain end up on hallway and living room floors from November to March. A rug that can go in the washing machine is far easier to keep fresh than one that needs professional cleaning. teppich.de uses three care labels that are worth reading closely: machine washable, partly washable and hand cleaning only. Partly washable usually means smaller sizes fit a domestic machine while larger ones do not, so check the care note for your exact size before you buy.

Calissa: Soft Short Pile for Cold Floors

Calissa is the best reviewed rug in this group, with a 4.38 out of 5 score from 1,537 ratings shown on its page. It is a 14 mm short pile in 100% polyester, certified to STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX, with a non-slip back and approval for underfloor heating. teppich.de describes it as silky and soft yet robust, and says the fabric backing lets it be cleaned in the washing machine after small accidents.

The size range is wide: from 60×100 cm mats to 300×400 cm room-filling pieces, plus square and round versions. That makes it easy to match a whole flat in one style, for example a round rug under a dining table and a runner in the hall.

Portivo: The Fully Machine-Washable Option

If washing is your top priority, Portivo is the clearest choice. It is the only model in this comparison labelled simply as machine washable. It has a 12 mm pile in 100% polypropylene with a flexible felt back, is rated for underfloor heating and is non-slip. The page showed 4.58 out of 5 from 380 ratings. teppich.de pitches it for high-traffic areas such as living rooms and hallways, exactly where winter dirt collects.

Portivo comes in rectangles up to 280×380 cm, two square sizes and round versions from 120 to 200 cm. Colours range from beige and grey to dark blue, rose, turquoise, silver and gold.

Solina: Maximum Fluff

Solina is the shaggy option for bedrooms and reading corners. Like Calissa it is 14 mm high, 100% polyester, OEKO-TEX certified, non-slip and suitable for underfloor heating, and it is labelled partly washable. teppich.de stresses that the pile is surprisingly hard-wearing for such a fluffy rug. Its rating stood at 4.33 out of 5 from 820 reviews. Unusual shapes are available too, including oval and hexagonal 150×170 cm versions.

Amara: For Balconies and Entrances

Amara is a thin 4 mm flatweave in polypropylene, approved for indoor and outdoor use. It is not washable in a machine; teppich.de says hand cleaning only. Even so, a low flatweave is easy to shake out and vacuum, which suits a covered porch, a boot room or a winter garden. It scored 4.66 out of 5 from 50 ratings and is OEKO-TEX certified.

Aurora and the Kids Range

Aurora is the design statement here, with a raised pattern of curved lines in cream. It carried the largest discount we saw: €126.59 against a previous €196.01, with a coupon price of €63.30. Families should also look at the children’s rugs, such as Togge, a round 120 or 160 cm rug with a sun face, listed at €59.39 with a coupon price of €29.70.

How to Choose the Right Size

• Living room: the front legs of the sofa and chairs should rest on the rug; 160×230 cm or 200×290 cm suits many rooms.
• Dining room: allow roughly 60 cm beyond the table on each side so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out.
• Bedroom: a rug that extends beyond both sides of the bed gives a warm first step in the morning.
• Hallway: a runner such as 80×250 cm or 80×300 cm, leaving some floor visible at each end.

These are common interior guidelines rather than teppich.de rules. Measure your room and mark the size on the floor with tape before ordering.

Underfloor Heating: What to Check

A rug acts as insulation, so on heated floors it slows the heat reaching the room. Thinner rugs and those marked as suitable for underfloor heating are the safer choice. All four models above with full specifications carry that label. A non-slip backing is helpful on smooth heated floors, but check whether any separate underlay you plan to use is also approved for heated floors.

Delivery and Returns

According to the product pages, teppich.de offers free delivery and free returns, payment on invoice and a 30-day free return period. When we checked, the estimated delivery window for orders placed on 4 November was 9 to 11 November 2026. Products ship within Germany; delivery to other countries may differ.

Our Verdict

For a busy winter hallway or family living room, Portivo is the practical pick because it is fully machine washable. Calissa is the best all-rounder, with the most reviews and the widest size choice. Solina adds comfort in bedrooms, Amara handles entrances and balconies, and Aurora is the one to choose for looks. Whichever you pick, read the care note for your size and apply the current coupon code before paying.
