The Runtz Family Tree: Six Lit Farms THCA Cultivars and Their Genetics

If you spend any time reading about cannabis flower, the word Runtz turns up everywhere. It is less a single cultivar than a whole family, and brands keep adding relatives to it. That makes the names confusing, because Pink Runtz, White Runtz and Super Runtz are not minor variations of the same plant. They are different crosses with different parents.

This guide untangles six of them using the genetics and flavour notes published by Lit Farms, the brand run by Lost In Translation, on the Lit Farms website on 26 October 2026. It is an explainer and not a recommendation to buy. Lit Farms sells only to adults aged 21 or over in parts of the US, so readers elsewhere should read the legal note below.

Legal Note for Readers Outside the US

Lit Farms is a US business that restricts sales by state and states that its products are for adults aged 21 and over. THC is a controlled substance in the UK, and you should not assume that a product sold legally in some US states is legal to buy, import or possess here. Nothing in this article is advice to do so. The information is here for readers who want to understand how cultivar names and genetics work.

    Where Runtz Comes From

According to Lit Farms, the original Runtz is a hybrid created by crossing Zkittlez, known for candy-sweet flavours, with Gelato, known for creamy dessert notes, and it was bred by Cookies Fam. The brand describes it as responsible for an entire family of modern crosses, and its own page lists the profile as candy and tropical fruit.

That idea of a named parent crossed with Runtz is the key to reading the family. Most of the cultivars below follow the same pattern: take Runtz, cross it with something else, and name the result after the new parent or flavour.

The Six Cultivars at a Glance

Here is how Lit Farms describes each one. All listings are THCA flower, and the lab report for each batch is the place to check the actual cannabinoid and terpene numbers.

Super RuntzSuper Lemon Cherry Gelato x RuntzRipe cherry, bright citrus, creamy candyHybrid
White RuntzGelato x ZkittlezCandy, ripe fruit, creamy gelatoHybrid
Rainbow RuntzWatermelon Mimosa x RuntzWatermelon, citrus, sweet candyHybrid
Pink RuntzPink Kush x RuntzRipe strawberry, pink lemonade, floralHybrid
Melon RuntzWatermelon Candy x RuntzJuicy watermelon, candy fruit, earthy kushIndica-leaning hybrid

One detail worth noticing is White Runtz. The brand lists its parentage as Gelato crossed with Zkittlez, which are the same two parents Lit Farms gives for the original Runtz. The difference it highlights is the appearance, with striking white trichome coverage. That is a good example of why names alone do not tell you the whole story.

    Super Runtz: Adding Lemon Cherry

Super Runtz crosses Super Lemon Cherry Gelato with Runtz. Lit Farms describes dense, colourful buds coated in frost, with a rich fruity aroma and a subtle gas hint that sets it apart from typical Runtz crosses.

The flavour notes follow the parentage logically: cherry and citrus from the Lemon Cherry Gelato side, and creamy candy from Runtz.

White Runtz and Rainbow Runtz: Two Looks

These two are good examples of how brands use the Runtz name for very different cultivars. Lit Farms describes White Runtz as a Gelato and Zkittlez cross with white trichome coverage, and Rainbow Runtz as a cross of Watermelon Mimosa and Runtz, with colourful, frosty buds and a brunch-cocktail brightness from the Mimosa side.

Pink Runtz and Melon Runtz: Fruit-Led Crosses

Pink Runtz crosses Pink Kush with Runtz, and the brand points to pink-tinged buds with the candy-coated profile of Runtz. Melon Runtz crosses Watermelon Candy with Runtz and is described as indica-leaning, with a warm earthy kush finish after the watermelon.

Fruit-led cultivars like these are popular because the names tell you what to expect on the nose. They are also a reminder that the flavour description is a marketing summary, while the terpene profile on the lab report is the measurable version.

How Lit Farms Presents Its Flower

On the listings we checked, Lit Farms offers flower in three tiers, Essential, Preferred and Supreme, along with sizes such as 28g, smalls and, for some listings, 3.5g. The brand states that tier changes the appearance of the flower rather than the lab testing, and that each harvest is third-party tested for cannabinoid content, terpenes, residual solvents, pesticides and heavy metals, with the certificate of analysis available on the product page.

Lit Farms also lists a very large number of Runtz-named cultivars, more than 40 in the part of the catalogue we checked. Availability moves quickly, and most of the Runtz listings we checked on 26 October 2026 showed some or all sizes as unavailable, so a favourite may not be in stock when you look.

How to Read a Cultivar Name

    • Look for the parents: a name such as Pink Runtz usually means Runtz crossed with something called Pink, so the brand’s cross description is the reliable part.
    • Treat flavour notes as a guide: they are the brand’s own summary, and the lab report shows the terpenes in the actual batch.
    • Check the batch: the same cultivar name can look and test differently from one harvest to the next.
    • Check the rules first: hemp-derived THCA products are regulated differently in different places, and many places do not allow them at all.

    Final Thoughts

The Runtz family looks complicated but follows a simple pattern: one famous parent, many partners. If you are in an eligible US state and over 21, the sensible order is to check your local rules, read the lab report for the exact batch and only then decide. The Lit Farms range shows the cross, flavour notes and documentation for each listing.

Information was taken from the Lit Farms website on 26 October 2026. Statements about genetics, flavour, testing, tiers and compliance are the brand’s own. This article is not legal, medical or purchasing advice, and THC products are controlled in the UK.
